The line
When a photo counts as mogging
A photo that scores 7 or higher is mogging. Under 7 it can still be a good photo, but it blends in; at 7 and up it starts to own the frame. The Mog Scale guide covers every range in detail.
Below the line, the check still tells you why. The sharp observation names what defines the shot, and the full read shows what is holding it back and how many points each fix is worth.
Just under the line
What keeps a photo at 6.5 to 6.9
Near misses are rarely about the whole setup. Most of the time one detail is pulling down a shot that already works. These are the usual suspects.
A busy room
The room competes with you.
A flat look
Everything but the face works.
A loose crop
Too much floor, too little you.
Mixed light
A warm lamp and a cold window.
Fix the one that fits your photo and check again. Changing one thing at a time tells you exactly what got it over the line.
Far from the line
Scored under 6? Start with the setup
A score well under the line usually means the setup is working against you: hard overhead light, a low camera or a cluttered background. A single tweak won't close that gap, but a better setup often does. The mog scanner guide walks through it, and the mog meter guide shows how to compare a few takes and keep the best.
FAQ
Questions, answered
What score counts as mogging?
7 out of 10 or higher. Below 7 the photo can still be good; it just does not stand out yet.
Why is the line at 7?
On a strict scale centred on 5.5, a 7 sits at about 84 percent on the Mogg curve. That is where a photo stops being simply good and starts to stand out.
My photo scored 6.9. Is it mogging?
Not yet, but it is one small fix away. The full read lists three moves for that exact photo, each with the points it should add, and the smallest one is often enough to cross 7.
Is a mog detector the same thing?
Yes. Mog checker, mog detector and mog check all mean the same: an AI read that tells you whether a photo mogs.
Can I check who mogs in a group photo?
Yes, with Squad Roast. It scores everyone in the shot and names the Mogg Leader. The mogging test guide shows how a squad result reads.
